Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is a well-established, non-invasive approach used by practitioners and researchers worldwide. You remain conscious and in control throughout every session. Nothing happens without your awareness, and you can choose to end a session at any point. There are no known risks associated with clinical hypnotherapy when practised by a qualified professional.

Will I lose control or do something embarrassing?

No. Stage hypnosis is entertainment and it has almost nothing in common with clinical hypnotherapy. In a session, you are in a focused, relaxed state, not unconscious. You won’t say or do anything you wouldn’t normally choose to. Most people describe it as feeling deeply calm but mentally clear, similar to being absorbed in a good book or a long drive on a familiar road.

I’m sceptical about hypnotherapy. Is it real?

Healthy scepticism is a good starting point. Hypnotherapy is not mysticism. It works by engaging the brain’s natural capacity to form and update patterns. Research in neuroscience and clinical psychology has documented measurable changes in how the brain processes fear and stress responses after hypnotherapy. My background is in engineering, which means I approach this work with the same interest in mechanism and evidence that you might bring as a client. You don’t need to believe in it for it to be effective. You just need to be willing to try.

What conditions do you work with?

The majority of my work is with specific fears and phobias: flying, heights, needles, social situations, public speaking, as well as performance anxiety and generalised stress. If you’re unsure whether what you’re dealing with is a good fit, the free intro call is the right place to find out. I’ll be straightforward with you about whether I can help.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients resolve a specific fear or phobia in three sessions. More complex or layered issues sometimes benefit from six. This isn’t open-ended therapy. The process is structured and goal-directed from the first session. The free intro call is where we work out what’s realistic for your situation before any commitment is made.

What happens in the first session?

We begin by talking through what’s brought you in: your history with the issue, how it affects your daily life, and what you want to be different. I’ll explain how the process works and answer any questions. The hypnotherapy itself then begins. I’ll guide you into a relaxed, focused state using your voice and structured language. Sessions typically last around 60 minutes. Most clients leave feeling noticeably calmer than when they arrived.

Do sessions happen online or in person?

Sessions are conducted online via Zoom. This makes it straightforward to work together regardless of where in Finland or the Nordic region you’re based. Online hypnotherapy is as effective as in-person work. The only requirement is a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted. Sessions are not recorded.

Do I need to speak Finnish?

No. All sessions are conducted in English. Helsinki Hypnosis was built specifically to serve English-speaking professionals in Finland and the broader Nordic region who want access to qualified, evidence-based support without the language barrier.
